We could probably title this section "How We Spent Our Summer..."

It began with the news that our grant application to Creative BC and Amplify BC was approved and funding was in place for Dalannah's new CD project titled Looking Back.

The songs had already been written and receiving the grant meant we could begin the recording process in earnest... Rehearsals came first, with everyone getting together and running through the songs. A few days later, sessions began at Monarch Studios in Vancouver, with a who's who of Vancouver musicians, under the direction of Michael Creber who took on the dual role of Music Director/Producer. The core band was made up of several different players including Andreas Schuld, Chris Nordquist, MIles Hill, Olaf de Shield, Brian Newcombe, Rob Becker.

A couple days into the session, Jim Byrnes dropped in to sing a duet with Dalannah on the song, "Don't Mess Up A Good Thing" raising the bar for everyone... and we were all right there with him. The bed tracks were recorded and overdubs began. First up, sessions at the Warehouse Studio, recording Dalannah's vocals with a classic microphone that seemed designed to capture her voice.

June rolled into July and while horn players and percussionists lay down their overdubs, Dalannah began work on the music video for the first single release from the CD, a song titled Somebody's Watching You, also funded in part by Creative BC and Amplify BC. In late July work on the CD paused while Dalannah performed to a sold out opening night crowd at the Langley Jazz and Arts Festival and then again the following day at a Kitsilano Reunion Concert.

On the Monday of the BC Day long weekend the team gathered to review progress on the recording, CD packaging and the video. It was determined that the video felt incomplete and so additional work was required, pushing back the release date for the video to late August. Package design was approved with only a few modifications...

That same week, Dalannah was back in the studio putting the finishing touches on her vocals as well as working with The Sojourners on the harmony parts for "Down To The River". Tom Keenleyside stopped in to add some horns to a track while guitar player Andreas Schuld performed his guitar solo in front of a green screen for the video.

By late August final mixes were ready to be mastered, the video had been completed and was ready for release and the CD packaging was being proofed for accuracy.

We more or less missed hitting the beach this summer... but our studio tans look great. And wait till you hear what we put down...
